The Little Mermaid and Marathons in Copenhagen

The Little Mermaid is a bronze sculpture of the Little Mermaid by sculptor Edvard Eriksen, located in Copenhagen Harbor. It is placed on the rocks at the seaward edge of the central Churchill Park. The statue was unveiled in August 1913.




🥇 Andreas Almgren becomes world champion in the men's half marathon with a European record time on September 20th, 2026.

Sweden's Andreas Almgren won the Copenhagen World Half Marathon in a time of 58.06, which is a European record.
Almgren improved his previous record by more than half a minute and rose to 9th place in the all-time world statistics. The race was run in windy 16-degree weather, and Kenyan Nicholas Kipkorir was responsible for maintaining the pace, leading almost the entire distance and coming in second in a time of 58.11. Almgren decided the victory in the last ~100 meters, where Kipkorir could not match his change of rhythm. Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei finished third in a time of 58.26. Almgren said that he felt strong and that he had "more gears in stock" for the rest. He is now preparing for the New York Marathon, the first marathon of his career. Before that, he will travel to Arizona for a high altitude camp.

🥇 Agnes Ngetich ran a world record in the women's half marathon.

Kenya's Agnes Ngetich won the women's World Half Marathon in a time of 1:05:15, a world record for the women's race only. The previous world record was improved by one second. Ngetich ran most of the distance alone and increased her pace to pursue the record, which she eventually achieved. Second place went to Veronica Loleo (1:06:05) and third place went to Florence Niyonkuru (1:06:08).
