In Finland, the President of the Republic Alexander Stubb participated in a speed triathlon in Joroinen, Northern Savo. The customized competition consists of a 500-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run. Stubb completed the distance in 1:04:19 and placed second in the men's fitness category. The difference to the winner of the competition, Arto Wallin, was one minute and 19 seconds.

Of the two mentioned in the comparison, A.S. was faster in cycling, while A.W. was slightly faster in swimming and running. Mira Leskinen, who won the women's fitness category, won both in 1:02:48.

The Joroinen Finntriathlon is one of the top domestic events that brings together Finland's top athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Stubb has been seen at the event before.
According to a press release from Finntriathlon, Stubb praised Joroinen's fighting spirit and said he first competed there 17 years ago.

The event will continue on Saturday July 12th, 2025 with a half-distance run. Stubb's son Oliver Stubb, who is training at the Institute of Foreign Affairs, has registered for the trip. Over 600 people are participating in the race..

On August 17th, 2013, in Kalmar, Sweden, today's President Stubb broke the 10-hour Ironman race with a time of 9:55:47. In his age group (M45-49), he was fifth and earned a place in the Hawaii race. It was his third Ironman after the 2012 and 2009 Frankfurt Games. In the 2013 Joroinen half-distance race, he also improved his record by 13 minutes with a time of 4:39:33, where the run was great, the cycling was normal and the swimming was particularly sweaty.

In the Kalmar race, Stubb said he had slept poorly the night before because his room was only 30 meters from the finish area, which was still being built the night before and the morning of the race. He was reassured by the encouragement of experienced Conservative Party MP and Ironman enthusiast Mr. Pauli Kiuru that the night before the race does not matter so much as long as he has had enough rest during the week.

Stubb ran his first adult marathon in Helsinki in 2007 at 3:59 and his enthusiasm for triathlon began in 2008, when he also participated in the Joroinen half-marathon.

Stubb tells his triathlon story under the title "When a little boy's dream comes true" in the book Triathlon: Defeat Yourself! In the book, Stubb says that he is built heavy and not at all a natural endurance athlete. When he started the hobby, his weight was about 90 kilograms, which had decreased by 10 kilograms in a year. Stubb was 189 cm tall at the time. Stubb tells and analyzes his own training and motivation in areas of discomfort in an interesting way in the book.

The book tells you what the sport requires both physically and mentally. The book discusses equipment issues, techniques and the requirements for sport-specific and comprehensive training for the three disciplines. In addition to versatile training, you will receive instructions on nutrition, muscle conditioning exercises and muscle maintenance and, of course, competition if fitness alone is not enough. You will learn to periodize your training and achieve your goals.

The authors of the book are Tiina Boman; She is one of Finland's most successful female triathletes, also at an international level.
Antti Hagqvist; He is a coach who, in addition to sports, works with coaching related to the leadership and development of senior management. Kalle Kotiranta; He is an experienced sports and communications professional who has written and edited numerous books on sports and well-being.

Experts in the book; Tom Söderdahl, Katja Väisänen and Merja Kiviranta
