According to Wikipedia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, or Nigeria, is a federal state in West Africa. Nigeria's neighboring countries are Benin to the west, Niger to the north, Chad to the northeast and Cameroon to the east. The surface of the country is about one million square kilometers.

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world. Its estimated population exceeded 198 million in 2018. In 2022, the CIA estimates its population to be 225 million. According to the UN's 2019 population growth forecast, Nigeria may become the third most populous country in the world by 2050. The official language is English, the major languages spoken are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Fulani. The biggest religions are Islam and Christianity.

Nigeria is a former British colony. The country's main source of income is the oil obtained from the Niger River Delta, and 2/3 of the government's budget income comes from oil production. The country is ravaged by disputes between ethnic groups, which occasionally flare up into violence. The capital of Nigeria is Abuja. Many administrative bodies are located in Lagos, the country's largest city and former capital.

The most popular sport in Nigeria is football, which is played by over 6.5 million citizens of the country. The Nigerian men's national team has been at best fifth in the FIFA ranking and has participated in the World Cup four times. The team won Olympic gold at the Atlanta Games in 1996.

Nigeria has participated in the Olympics a total of 14 times since 1952 and has won a total of 23 medals.

Perhaps the most famous Nigerian athletes are footballers, as the country is home to the likes of Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, Celestine Babayaro and Taye Taiwo. Well-known general athletes include Chioma Ajunwa, Glory Alozie, who later represented Spain, Francis Obikwelu, who represented Nigeria as well as Portugal, and Blessing Okagbare. Boxer Samuel Peter is a former WBC heavyweight world champion.
