Self-defense teaches us to recognize and avoid dangerous situations, which is essential in everyday life. In addition, practicing self-defense improves physical fitness, coordination, and agility.

Self-defense is the defense of oneself, one's property, or one's loved ones. Self-defense can involve the use of physical force, the use of a weapon or other instrument, or verbal defense. The law allows self-defense up to a certain limit. Self-defense skills can be developed through self-defense courses or by practicing a form of self-defense.

The European Convention on Human Rights (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Convention_on_Human_Rights) Any person who feels their rights have been violated under the convention by a state party can take a case to the court. Judgments finding violations are binding on the states concerned and they are obliged to execute them. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe monitors the execution of judgments, particularly to ensure payments awarded by the court appropriately compensate applicants for the damage they have sustained. In its seriousness, the European Convention on Human Rights permits the taking of the life of an aggressor as a result of the use of force strictly necessary to defend anyone from unlawful violence, to effect a lawful arrest or to prevent the escape of a person lawfully deprived of his liberty, or to suppress a riot or insurrection by lawful means.

The terms self-defense, martial arts, and combat sports describe sports that are intended to teach skills that a person can use either for self-defense, i.e., to defend themselves from physical attack, to carry out an attack, or to compete in a sport.

The terms are vague, controversial, and partly parallel; below is a rough breakdown of the differences between the terms. Many sports contain features of all or some of the terms' definitions. Each sport itself usually defines more precisely the purpose of the sport and the ideology on which the sport is based.

Martial art

The ultimate goal of martial arts is to injure, often even kill, an opponent. Martial arts are essentially part of the history of warfare, and many martial arts techniques, including sword and spear techniques, remain. Many countries still teach some form of martial art in their armed forces.

Most modern martial arts have their roots in one of the oldest martial arts.

Ninjutsu
Gongfu (kungfu)
Karate
Silat
Tang Soo Do
Pekiti Tirsia Kali

Self-defense

Self-defense is a "lightened" martial art, where the main purpose is only to protect one's own (or another person's) physical integrity. There are great differences in the severity of the techniques between the arts, with the mildest being just parries and the most severe being capable of seriously damaging the attacker.

Martial arts

A martial art is a sport primarily intended for competition in combat sports. Its rules, techniques, and nature are designed to make it meaningful and safe to compete in. However, they can be applied for self-defense with higher values.

Martial arts such as boxing, karate, fencing, wrestling, taekwondo, and judo have become Olympic sports.

Species that are difficult to define

Some styles do not fit neatly into any of the three categories by definition, but form a style based on their own philosophy. The skills derived from various Japanese martial arts, self-defense styles, and other martial arts, in turn, form their own entity that shares a fixed philosophical view: the Budo styles.
